In The Spotlight

I spotted this most spectacular moth (?) hanging out on the blue lamp in the dining room one evening. I have never seen anything like this little beauty and couldn't believe the good fortune of having her stand so perfectly still in such a gorgeous spot long enough for me to snap 9,000 pictures of her.

If anyone can tell me the official name for this stunning creature, I would break into the happiest of jigs.

UPDATE: A lovely person named Ben wrote to tell me that the beauty in the photo is a Plume Moth. Here's a site with information and pictures of some of the many species of this type of moth.
